MAMBA's primary purpose is to build and maintain local trails. We do this exclusively through the volunteer labor of our members. Our main focus is on organized Trail Work Days, but we recognize that members who want to help may have conflicting schedules. Because of this, we've created a running "To-Do" list with projects suitable for one or a few people to tackle on their own schedule.

If you'd like to take on one of the projects below, contact us at tasks@bikemamba.org. We'll provide you with any other details you need and indicate that the task is in-progress so someone else doesn't go out and attempt it. We'll also arrange for you to check out any MAMBA-owned tools you'll need to get the job done.

If you'd like to suggest a task to be added to this list (whether you'd like to do it or just want to throw it out there), again e-mail to tasks@bikemamba.org.

Mowing on Sparrow Farm Trail

Description: Sparrow Farm Trail in East Montpelier has two sections which run along the edge of open pasture. These sections grow in by late summer to the point that riding becomes difficult. A pass or two with a lawnmower or string trimmer would make a big improvement.
Number of Volunteers Needed: This job could safely be tackled by a single person. If a lawnmower is used, two people would make it easier to transport the mower in to the second field section.
Time Estimate: 1-3 hours, depending on tool used and how thick the growth is.
Skills Needed: Nothing beyond being comfortable with small power equipment.
Tools Needed: Sturdy lawnmower on "high" height setting, string trimmer, or hand-held swizzle stick. MAMBA owns all three, or use your own. Eye and ear protection should be used if using power equipment.

Assigned to: none, contact us at tasks@bikemamba.org to volunteer.

Continue Rock Armoring on Sparrow Farm Trail

Description: MAMBA volunteers have put in significant work in Fall of 2004 and Summer of 2005 armoring the initial climb into the woods (just off Sparrow Farm Road). This area was previously completely muddy and rooty in almost all seasons. It's improving, but still needs significant work.
Number of Volunteers Needed: A minimum of two people is needed to do this job effectively and safely.
Time Estimate: As long as you want to work. It will probably take a least 30 person-hours to complete the entire task, but every small bit helps.
Skills Needed: At least one person working on this needs to be familiar with correct procedures for setting large stones.
Tools Needed: Shovels, wheelbarrow, pails, rock bars, mattock. MAMBA owns all of these. Provide your own work gloves.
